พระธาตุภูริทัตแห่งนี้ ถูกสร้างขึ้นโดยคณะอุบาสิกาผู้มีบทบาทสำคัญในการสร้าง บูรณะ และปฏิสังขรณ์พระเจดีย์องค์สำคัญหลายองค์ อาทิ พระธาตุพนม พระธาตุเชิงชุม พระธาตุวัดป่านาคนิมิตต์ รวมถึงเป็นผู้ปฏิบัติธรรมผู้มีจิตเลื่อมใสในการถวายทานแด่พระพุทธศาสนาอย่างยาวนานตลอด 30 ปีที่ผ่านมา
พระธาตภูริทัตก่อสร้างสำเร็จด้วยจิตศรัทธาและปัจจัยของเจ้าภาพคณะเดียว สำเร็จอย่างรวดเร็วภายในเวลาเพียง 3 เดือน สมเด็จธงชัย หรือ สมเด็จพระมหารัชมงคลมุนี ได้เรียกพระธาตุ อีกชื่อ ว่า “พระธาตุทันใจ” เพราะทำสำเร็จรวดเร็วทันใจ สำเร็จสมดังใจ และมีผู้ได้พบเห็นหลายล้านคนทุกเดือน
สมดังเจตนาเพื่อแสดงความเคารพและความศรัทธาต่อพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระพุทธเจ้าทุกพระองค์ พระปัจเจกพุทธเจ้า พระอรหันต์ และพระโพธิสัตว์ทุกพระองค์ เพื่อให้พุทธศาสนิกชนและคนทั่วโลกได้ร่วมปีติยินดีและรำลึกถึงคุณของพระรัตนตรัยสืบไป
พระธาตุสีทองคำ ประดับรูปปั้นพญานาคทั้ง 4 ตระกูล มีองค์พระนาคปรกประดับอยู่ทางทิศเหนือ มีสวนและสระน้ำอันร่มรื่นประดับโดยรอบ เหมาะแก่การเข้ามาเคารพสักการะและเดินจงกรมปฏิบัติภาวนา
การบูชาพระธาตุ ถวาย ก้อนดิน เป็นธรณีพระธาตุ ถวายต้นไม้เป็นวิมาน ถวายดวงประทีปรอบสวนพระเจดีย์ถวายการสวดพระสูตร เดินจงกรมนั่งสมาธิ แล้วอธิษฐานเทอญ
